Future Energy Leaders Finland and World Energy Council Finland are organising a discussion on the European Union’s energy policy on Thursday, 5th June, from 8:30 to 10:00. The event will take place in Helsinki at the European Commission’s Representation in Finland, in the Europe Hall (Malminkatu 16).
At the event, we will hear the views of three top experts on the European Union’s energy policy: past, present, and future.
The first presentation will focus on the past:
How has the EU regulated energy, and how is energy ‘seen’ in the EU? What has been the long-term focus of the EU’s energy policy, and how did the current EU energy situation come about? How has the EU’s relationship with Russia, China, the US, and the Middle East evolved over the years in terms of energy? The first presentation will be given by Federica Prandin, a researcher at the Institute of International Affairs, who will examine how geopolitical and global politics are shaping the energy transition.
The second presentation will focus on the present:
Where is EU energy policy now? What is happening or planned, and what is current in the Union’s energy policy? This presentation will be given by Riku Huttunen, Head of the Energy Department at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
The third presentation will look to the future of EU energy policy:
What does the future hold if the EU continues as it is? What about European energy independence or possible dependence on non-EU countries? What do these energy policy scenarios mean for the European economy? Will energy remain at the heart of EU policy? What will happen to the EU’s energy-intensive industry? This presentation will be given by Atte Harjanne, a Member of Parliament with expertise in energy policy.
The presentation will be concluded with further discussion with the speakers. The discussion will be opened by Toivo Haimi, political editor at Kansan Uutiset.
